At Futureproofed, we care about driving cities and companies to make this transition happen while becoming more attractive and futureproofed.
With our online tool, FutureproofedCities, we connect cities and help them implement climate action.
We launched in early 2017 and currently have about 105 municipalities running on FutureproofedCities, including Antwerp, Ghent, Namur, Kortrijk, Hasselt, Ostend, Vilvoorde, Bonheiden, Pont-à-Celles and Valencia (ES).
By the end of the year we’ll have launched a few more cities in Belgium and across Europe (probably in Spain and in South East Europe) and we’re just getting started!

Futureproofed is expanding across Europe and is looking for a fun, resourceful and driven Business Developer to develop, implement and take the lead on the business development in the Netherlands.
As part of a growing team, your mission will be to successfully launch Dutch municipalities on FutureproofedCities and strengthen Futureproofed’s presence as an essential actor for cities & regions in their transition towards a fossil-free future.
You will play a key role in the scaling up of FutureproofedCities in Europe and hold a central position in the growing sales department.
You will be responsible for the launch of FutureproofedCities in the Netherlands; this means taking full responsibility of the sales cycle from prospecting to closing.
Your daily tasks will include phone and video calls, face-to-face meetings, e-mails and networking events.
You will analyze the market and identify new opportunities based on data and relationships; understanding the local governmental structure and spotting the key actors when it comes to solving climate change are critical success factors.
You will set up your own methodology to develop the sales network in the Netherlands in collaboration with the sales team, fill the sales pipeline and identify bottlenecks.
You will act as an ambassador on the Dutch market, and position Futureproofed as a key player that helps making cities smarter and cleaner. This implies representing Futureproofed at marketing and sales events.
You will provide feedback to product and customer success teams to better meet regional customer needs.
You will proactively report to the sales team on your progress and bottlenecks in order to quickly overcome obstacles.
Passionate about solving climate change and interest in the opportunities it brings for cities.
Background in business administration, economics or management (business engineering, economics, finance, or similar) and/or naturally business-driven with an entrepreneurial mindset.
Good knowledge of the ins and outs of business in general and able to build a strategic plan; you know how to build and expand networks, love sales and have the drive, resourcefulness and perseverance for results.
Client-driven personality with the ability to understand needs, worries and motivations; you are an excellent listener with strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
Stress resistant personality in combination with a good sense of responsibility; you are self-motivated, eager to grow and learn.
Dedicated team player with the ability to work independently and to challenge ideas; you are outspoken and constructive, and positive about receiving feedback.
Ready to work remotely until potential opening of regional office (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, …) based on your own sales progress — yes, you will have a say in this; and/or possibility to be fully based in the headquarters in Leuven (or Brussels) with regular travels to the Netherlands.
Native in Dutch (accent from the Netherlands is very welcome ;-) ) and fluent in English.
Bonus points for
A network within Dutch municipalities and/or local and governmental organisations.
Approximately 3 years of relevant work experience in a similar position.
Affinity with the culture of local authorities (municipalities, cities, provinces, waterschappen, VNG, ‘Het Rijk’) in the Netherlands.
Good knowledge of climate change science and tomorrow’s solutions. You understand the stakes of the climate action and you are familiar with the EU Climate Change institutional framework, being able to identify key-stakeholders at both national and international level.
