The city council of Overijse signed the Covenant of Mayors agreement with the European commission. This marked the intention of the city to reduce its CO2 emissions with 20% by 2020.
Overijse wanted a participation process in order to contribute and engage citizens and companies for their climate action plan. Overijse also involved the future project managers, heads of services and city official wo will be responsible for their part of the climate action plan.
At first, Futureproofed explained the scope of the climate action plan to the aldermen. The purpose it to give perspective by highlighting new opportunities emerging from the action plan. Thereby, they were able to commit themselves to help implementing the plan, by taking advantage of their own competences.
Secondly, Futureproofed involved the citizens. All of them could give their ideas and suggestions on the projects in a structured and prioritised way, making it real and concrete.
In light of the citizen’s ideas, future project managers, together with Futureproofed, initiated a few projects that became part of the climate plan.
Finally, Futureproofed submitted the newly born projects to the city officials. Their feedback was used to improve the efficiency of the projects… And this closed the loop.
