Recticel is one of the top-three worldwide polyurethane foam manufacturers and provides products and solutions to customers all over of the world. Under the motto "The passion for comfort", Recticel, strives to make an essential difference in the daily comfort of everyone.
The Group, as a unique whole, concentrates on four selected fields of application: Flexible foams, Bedding, Insulation and Automotive. A new Insulation production site opened in Bourges (France) in 2013.
Making an objective value chain carbon footprint can highlight the highest impact of Recticel Insulation’s production site on the environment and help making right decisions in the future, to both reduce costs and risks and lower carbon emissions. A win-win situation!
Futureproofed mapped the carbon impact of all materials used in the factory, but also of energy sources, buildings, etc., i.e. of the whole value chain of polyurethane insulation produced in Bourges and Stoke on Trent. The positive impact of insulation and the end-of-life emissions of materials were also taken into account.
Results and Resolutions
The results can be used to make the right decisions in the future, but also to compare different production sites of Recticel, like Stoke on Trent (UK), Bourges (FR) and Wevelgem (BE) (Futureproofed already calculated Wevelgems' carbon footprint in 2012).
In addition, the results showed that for the two new Recticel’s production sites Bourges and Stoke on Trent, the carbon emissions per kg polyurethane were 35% and 41% lower when compared to a reference database value from EcoInvent.
