Challenges
We share a common fate on a crowded planet. And depending on how we respond, this fate will either be devastating crisis or shared prosperity.
Human pressures on the Earth’s ecosystems and climate, unless mitigated substantially, will cause dangerous climate change, massive species extinctions and the destruction of vital life-supporting functions.
Climate change is occurring;
• It is largely caused by human-induced greenhouse gas (ghg) emissions. 85% of all human-induced ghg emissions are caused by use of fossil fuel;
• There is potential for serious/devastating consequences to the earth and its inhabitants if it is allowed to continue unabated.
What is the situation today?
Climate change is happening faster and more intensely than expected. Carbon emissions have risen faster than the most pessimistic scenario published in the third IPCC report. This is arguably one of the most severe crises that humanity is facing and it is tightly interwoven with other crises such as water shortages, loss of biodiversity, a dangerous disparity of resource appropriation within and between nations, persistent pockets of severe poverty, decline of arable soil, etc.
At Futureproofed we are convinced that this crisis is an opportunity: emissions can be reduced without damaging prosperity in either the developed or developing world. To counter threats of climate change we need to improve by a factor 10.
