Mia Doornaert in De Standaard: "I'm a convert !"
Mia Doornaert wrote an encouraging article in the paper "De Standaard" after hearing Serge's presentation about the opportunities brought about by the climate crisis. In February 2009, a group of Flemish ceo's and professionals convened for Valentine's weekend in Maastricht for 'Leaders' meet and greet', a yearly conference where speakers present innovative ideas and encourage interaction and discussion. This year's speakers included amongst others: Guy Verhofstad, Kris van der Velpe, Kris Peeters and others.
Serge presented Futureproofed's view on climate change, how it's taking place sooner, faster and stronger than expected, but mostly how it's a incredible opportunity to move to a better economic and societal model with existing solutions that are effective, practical, attractive and (most importantly): profitable.
This vision seemed to have struck a chord with the audience and with (barones) Mia Doornaert, diplomatic editor of De Standaard, who was there 'off-duty' in terms of her journalistic role. She wrote a very encouraging article from the point of view of a 'sceptical' observer: "But wait before turning the page indignant about so much superficiality about climate change, because I have been converted ! (...) He did not speak about putting on more sweaters, but about a better life that is both sustainable and equitable, because it doesn't consume the earth's natural capital. (...) He also captivated the ceos with his stories about existing technology and solutions and about new transportation strategies that are being tested. And he showed the the passive house in Kortrijk of his 78-year-old mother where it's always comfortably warm."
